[Dec. 29th, 2009*05:52 pm] |
To celebrate the end of DAR, Matt and I went out to have a nice little lunch together.
My every day uniform is my dirty jeans, a t-shirt and my falling apart sneakers, but I figgered this was worthy of dressing up a bit more nicely. So I put on a cute little dress, nylons and these very thin white party flats. They have no insulation or cushioning, so it hurts to walk too long on the sidewalk as its basically like walking barefoot.
But they're cute! So... y'know. Beauty is pain or whatever.
Of course not five minutes after we left the house it started snowing for the first time this winter.
Not just a couple flakes. No. It's a goddamn FLURRY out there.
This is about as close to being barefoot in the snow as you can get without actually having your flesh touch it. ( Two More )<:) |

I gotta say you guys, Twitter is pissing off my shit. However I feel like a cheating spouse saying this because I am on that shit all the TIME. The thing is, it's fun but it is just the shittiest blog that ever existed. You cannot keep up with people on a Twitter page. If you go to their Twitter "blog" all there is is unimportant nonsense and half conversations with people you don't know. In fact the reason I am on there so much is BECAUSE it is so shitty. It has made it so hard for me to keep up with the people and artists I like that it makes me feel like I need to watch it all the time or I will miss something important and that is a shitty bag of balls. Maybe they made it that way on purpose?
Also it feels like it's sucking everyone away from their usual haunts where I used to keep up with them very well. You know how Walmart moves into town and suddenly local businesses go under because everyone is having so much fun shopping at Walmart? That is what Twitter is, it is the Walmart of blogs. |

I don't need surgery on my leg/ankle, thank the Lords and Ladies. They put me in an immobilization boot and may not walk for 2 weeks then another 2 weeks light walking with crutches. I'll still be booted while on vacation in Florida but it's better than surgery. |

This is my sister Lucy presenting some publicity material for HOW TO BE, a film starring Robert Pattinson which she was the costume designer for.
Here is what happened: the PR company handling the film asked her to come in to be interviewed about her role on the set, so she did. They then said "that's great, but can you condense what you said to under a minute, and look at the camera?" She did. "Great, can you do it again, but also introduce this clip and mention this website where you can buy merchandise related to the film". I believe my sister's response was " ?___? "
They also gave her a script to read from: "working on 'How To Be' was a dream because I basically got to play dress-up with Robert Pattinson all day". She did not read it!
Basically they'd got her there under false pretences- they didn't want to interview her, they really just wanted her to work as a presenter for free, because their budget to promote the film is this: beans. She called them out on this and said she would happily do it, but they'd have to pay her properly for her services- so they did! Ha! Pretty smooth. I am proud of her!
She thinks the videos are terrible and that they make her look like the worst kind of sell-out, but I'm not so sure. I think she gets away with it. You can see the other videos she's in by clicking the links below:

Also, I really appreciate the comments on the last post but things got nutty this weekend and I haven't responded to any of them. I will though, I swear. I'm pretty terrible at the internet sometimes! |

AND: Hey, y'all, know those ravishingly handsome yet modestly distinguished fellows from the Partyka collective? They are some of my favorite illustrators in contemporary comics, and I guess they mistook me for someone with skills, because they are hosting me as their guest on their site this month!
Check out some beautiful drawing from the collective as well as past guests, including my partner, Erin! |

Hi everybody. I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas had a good one.
I am sure most of you are already familiar with Child's Play. For those who are not, it is a charity set up by Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade. Its goal is to provide games, toys, and entertainment to children in hospitals. The charity is doing exceedingly well but there will always be more sick children and they will always need more donations.
I was a sick child myself. I spent a lot of time at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis and thanks to their fantastic care I am here today, able to bring you these silly comics. But I know firsthand how rough it can be for a kid in the hospital with nothing to do. Tonight I discovered that Riley has a Child's Play Amazon Wishlist where anyone who wishes to do so can purchase an item and have it sent to the hospital.
I urge you to take a look at that list and see if there's something you might like to buy for a child. Or check out the Child's Play homepage to find a hospital that may be more significant to you, or click on that Paypal button to send in a donation. It doesn't have to be much; even a few dollars here and there will add up.
My sincere thanks to anyone who chooses to help in whatever way. Thank you for helping to bring a little bit of cheer into a painful experience. May the new year treat you well. Thanks for listening. |

| HEY let's play CAPTAIN BLOOD |
[Dec. 28th, 2009*03:23 am] |
Hey! I have somehow managed to fall really sick in the last couple of days, to the point where doing anything other than being in bed is pretty much a special kind of hell, so I just decided: I am going use this time to finally play CAPTAIN BLOOD
(Don't be put off by the Schwartzenegger clone in the preload image- watch the video from 1:25 and you'll get some kind of sense of what this game is)
It's a french Atari ST game from like 1988- it's got this unique, desolate atmosphere which has always made me feel compelled to try it out. Like the deep space you travel through, the game is cold, morally blank- the main character's a dying space pilot in a barren, mostly empty galaxy. He's hunting for his five clones so he can take their fluids to prolong his own life. You find these clones by talking to the alien lifeforms you might find hiding on the planets you encounter, and you talk to them in their own language- a pictogrammatically represented series of heiroglyphs the player must decipher and learn as he plays the game. The more you talk to people, the more of this language you learn and the more questions you can ask.
But even once you're able to talk to and understand these creatures, nothing's easy- their motives are often obtuse, their information can be misleading. Apparently, the locations of some of Blood's clones can only be found out from the other clones, so sometimes you're forced to keep them alive- a lot of bartering and skullduggery goes on in this. As a child this game baffled me! True to its contents, the game seemed completely alien to my young self- the mechanics of the gameplay were foriegn to the point where I never actually discovered any alien lifeforms, I just flew around the galaxy destroying planets before I had a chance to see who lived on them (Captain Blood can do that). According to the youtube user comments, at least one kid in the 80's thought this game was really a link to the onboard computer of an alien craft, and for a dread week thought he had sent a command to destroy the earth. I can completely understand why- It has that kind of air about it.
So hey I am practically an adult now, and there's no other game that's come at all close to offering the same experience, so it's about time I bit the bullet and played it, I reckon. If you're similarly bedridden and you feel like joining in, that would be neato 'cause maybe we can use the comments section of this post to trade hints and tips and whatnot, and not look at walkthroughs, and be 100% top draw dudes and ladies!
Download the game here!
Then, download an Atari ST emulator to play it on- for PC, Linux or Mac
I'm not 100% sure how to get the game to run, I will be going into this thing pretty blind myself but if you have trouble, ask for help in the comments maybe!

If you're in type 'I'm in' in the comments. OK LET'S KILL SOME FUCKIN' EVIL CLONES
