being a girl, i am mercifully exempt from bike-seat-ball-strike, but i know all too well the sinking feeling of remembering too late why it's not prudent to ride down fourth or fifth st. around old city.

the cycling situation in Philly's getting a bit dicey at the moment, thanks to an almost witch-hunt level of "cracking down" on cyclists. i do have a bias towards riders, but i feel justified because i've been a driver as well--i can empathize a bit more with the other side, while a lot of cycling antagonists hold their opinions because they've never tried a daily bicycle commute in philly. the streets are a freaking battlefield, bicycle motion is far more affected by the laws of physics, and when car hits bike, bike loses 90% of the time. but then again, i'm also of the opinion that this will be a big stink for maybe a few weeks longer, then blow over and things can get back to the aggrevated, neglected status quo. there's a reason this city is so fucked, and it's not because it embraces change and evolution.

that being said, get your bike off the fucking sidewalk unless you're walking it.

in other news, i've been watching too many documentaries.

an extra long blog post totally makes up for not having a comic! (no it doesn't)

here's another homework piece that amused me.

sorry for lack of real updates. did anybody see the quickie comic i posted last week, also posted between 3 and holyfuckwhyisthatthesun a.m.? if not, please click back to it. and please laugh.

semester is almost done and i want to do something major for december. maybe another post-every-day-for-a-week jawn? also: for the umpteenth time i've had my professor's look at my work, express the strength of the style, then ask, in so many words, "what's with the eyes?" so all semester i've been drawing eyes differently, more traditionally "eye-like." one the one hand i like being able to vary the expressions more, while on the other, i don't think it feels like "my" work, like it's too generic. the only reason i conceded to changing shit up this semester is because 1) i'm tired of having to defend my choices all the frikkin time, and 2) my illustration prof made a point about not pigeon-holing myself. ::sigh:: tell that to Gary Baseman. Art School is SUCH bullshit. seriously.

also: i did some secret project comic-type work for a buddy, and have realized that it takes a certain sensitivity, and an exuberant, almost innocent flair to write a comic that is child-friendly and intelligent. And that those are things i do not posess. like at all. i'm honestly surprised at how difficult it is for me to come up with comic ideas that are g-rated.

stay tuned for yet another comic about menstruation and/or fisting.

also: i cannot draw guns.

sorry for the quality, but i kinda drew this in twenty minutes in the one class i actually have the time to doodle in. school is killing me.

on the plus side, all i've wanted to do these past few weeks of hell is draw comics--it's really made me realize what a priority for my happiness they are, and as soon as i am free from this educational nightmare i plan to actually get my shit together and *focus* on the paneled narrative.

PACC was a-mazing. i'm the worst at smalltalk with nice strangers so i felt like a total spaz, but at the end of the day i made more than what i paid for the table, got to meet some neat people, and offended a furry. all in all a smashing success.

i will try my damndest not to let too long a time to pass without updating. i have a month-long project in mind, so stay tuned.

(ps: to sate my curiosity (read: ego) would anyone who actually came to the site despite my exhaustion-induced ramblings at PACC please hollaback in the comments section? anonymously is a-ok!)

...so i made him a 15 inch tall Edward James Olmos Paper Doll. Cause that's just what friends do. that, and violently throw up in a dive bathroom after said asshole convinces you that jager shots are definitely a good follow-up to six 23oz lagers and a Car Bomb....

my brain has been too swamped with bullshit to pick up a damn pen lately, but i just bought new, fancy, japanese pens that are guaranteed lighter and able to deflect bullshit (not really, but they should be).

I'm testing out flickr in the hopes it'll be much less annoying than photobucket (it currently has about 1% of the advertising), but i need to explore it more to figure out if it'll suit my needs.

Speaking of needs, any and all people with a need for tangible versions of my brain-damaged artistic meanderings need to go to the Punk Rock Flea Market this july, especially on sunday when Ian,
Pat, Beth and myself will be representin' the Philly Comix Jam. i'll have no less than THREE mini comics (all stuff not found on the site!) and probably a bunch of cheap prints.

so hopefully people will come out and buy my shit so i can gets them gold rims for the caddy.

as far as an actual schedule, i'm going to try tuesdays and thursdays. i love posting as much as possible, but i need to draw faster to make it practical most days.

sadly, i actually had this conversation with my beer tonite. its been a long month.

so, like many good, honest, hardworking americans out there, i'm broke. however, unlike many good, honest, hardworking americans out there, i don't have a whole hell of a lot of these "useful skills" potential employers keep yammering about. so i've opened an etsy shop in an attempt to peddle my artistic wares! right now i have a bunch of tiny owl paintings, and even *tinier* origami crane ones. tell your friends and/or people with money! capitalism!
